Do you sometimes feel like leading your group or organization makes the proverbial "herding cats" sound easy? All organizations and groups exhibit both positive and negative traits of tribal behavior and our community is no exception. In this presentation we will explore the five levels of tribal behavior described in David Logan's acclaimed book Tribal Leadership, and how to recognize them in your own organizations. Each tribal stage has unique ways of forming relationships, dealing with conflict, acceptable group behaviors and attitude toward change: Stage One - Life Sucks Stage Two - My Life Sucks Stage Three - I'm Great (and You're Not) Stage Four - We're Great (and They're Not) Stage Five - Life is Great In this workshop we'll introduce ideas and suggestions on how each of us can more effectively function as a community volunteer or leader in each of the five tribal levels and how to better address negative tribal behaviors. "Tribal Leadership (When Herding Cats Sounds Easy)" is an insightful application of the psychological theories of Dr. Clare W. Graves, Tribal Leadership concepts as presented by David Logan, tribal behavior observations and years of personal involvement with the BDSM community in leadership positions. |
